Massachusetts has a strong economy and is a hub of a variety of industries. One of those industries is security.  Massachusetts has a great environment for security guard jobs.  Let’s look at the basic security guard requirements in the state of Massachusetts.

Unarmed Security Guard Requirements 

Massachusetts is one of those states where you do not need a security guard license.  However, agencies licensed and approved by the state of Massachusetts can hire security guards. Although a license is not necessary, receiving proper training gives you a competitive edge while interviewing for a job.

Below are a few security guard requirements in Massachusetts:

  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Be a U.S. citizen or registered resident.
  • Submit to drug testing.
  • Also, successfully pass a background check.

Armed Security Guard Requirements 

While no armed security guard certification is required, you must obtain a license to carry a firearm.

To become an armed security guard in Massachusetts, you must:

  • Be at least 21 years old.
  • Be a U.S. citizen or registered resident alien.
  • Successfully pass a background check.
  • Possess a Massachusetts state driver’s license.
  • Not use drugs or alcohol and submit to a drug test.
  • Also, not have any prior convictions.
