The basic requirements for becoming an unarmed security guard in Maryland are:

  • Utilize the state PDF application form
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Have no conviction of a felony
  • No sexual offenses
  • Crimes that question honesty and integrity are not permitted
  • Meet and maintain qualifications set and approved by the Maryland State Police
  • Provide the employer with a set of passport-style photos
  • Also, provide the employer with a set of fingerprints on a standard FBI fingerprint card

Remember, there is no pre-defined unarmed training for security guards in Maryland. Therefore, the only requirement is that the security guard agency must have a license.

You will need to pay $15.00 for the application fee.

Armed Security Guard Requirements

In order to become an armed security guard in Maryland, there are a few extra requirements.

Those who wish to qualify as an armed security guard in Maryland must obtain a Maryland Wear and Carry permit.

Also, you must complete a 16-hour Maryland-approved firearm training course.
