Unarmed Security Guard Requirements in Arizona

Arizona does not require training for unarmed security guards. However, there are different licensing requirements. Therefore, the requirements depend on your employment.

  • You must have a license if you work for an individual security guard agency or contractor.
  • A license is not necessary if you are working directly for a private company.

Legally, you cannot wear a security guard uniform if a security license is required.  Thus, obtain the license from the Arizona Department of Public Safety Licensing Unit. Hence, to become an Arizona security guard, follow the steps below. The fees are a total of $72.00.

To begin with, if you’re employed by a Department of Public Safety certified security guard agency, you will need to complete the employer section of the registration application.

Second, complete the employee section (Part B) with your signature.

Third, submit to proper fingerprinting and a criminal background check.

Fourth, submit a color passport-sized photograph of your face.

Fifth, complete the eight-hour pre-assignment unarmed training course. Following are Arizona’s security guard training topics:

  • Criminal Law
  • Laws of Arrest
  • Uniform and Grooming
  • Use of Force
  • Emergency Response Procedures

Sixth, submit the training verification, signed by you, the instructor, and the qualifying party or resident manager.

Last, pay the $50.00 registration fee and the $22.00 FBI fingerprinting certification fee to the Department of Public Licensing.

Furthermore, to become an armed security guard in Arizona, you must complete state-required security training.  Each year the state-required security training is renewed.

Applicants must:

  •  Be at least 18 years old.
  •  Submit fingerprints.
  •  Submit two passport-style photos.

In addition, show proof of identification such as a copy of your driver’s license or passport and not have any of the following:

    • Felony Convictions
    • Sexual Offenses
    • Dishonesty and integrity crimes
    • Now once you have passed the required qualifications, you can take the required examination.

Next, the training courses will cover:

  • Firearm Marksmanship
  • Legal Issues
  • Liability and much more

The fees are a total of $122.00.
